Blind Melon is best known for vocalist, Shannon Hoon, who was born on September 26,1967 in Lafayette, IN. Shannon lost his life at only 28 years old on October 21,1995 from an apparent drug overdose. Shannon is buried in the state of IN.
Shannon grew up in a very small town just outside of Lafayette. After high school, he grew bored and restless and took a Greyhound bus out to L.A. Shannon already knew Axl Rose from his sister. He was asked by Axl to sing some back up vocals for a few GnR songs. By 1990 he had found the right guys and formed a band called, Blind Melon.
After recording four songs, Capitol Records signed the band in 1991. They hit the big time when they came out with No Rain. After living in L.A., then NC, they moved to New Orleans where Shannon lost his battle with drugs.
The band has sold over 3.2M albums in the U.S. The band was reformed in 2006 with Travis Warren and the remaining members.
